Shop It To Me: What I Want Thursday

I don't always open my Sale Mail on Thursday, but sometimes I'll do a cursory glance. It's not that I don't think Shop it to Me is doing a good job, it's that I'm a bit bored with fashion right now. There is one trend that I can get behind though, and I know it'll make you laugh.

Palazzo pants. That's right, Palazzo pants. High-waisted ones at that. One of my favorite things to wear in high school was this teal pair of palazzo pants that I inherited from my mom. I'd wear them with a teal and periwinkle tye-dyed T-shirt. Yes, it was as awesome/atrocious as it sounds. Sometimes I'd tie on a little practice ballet skirt that a friend gave me. I wonder if there were such a thing as fashion blogs then, if I would have been Tavi before Tavi was the Style Rookie. Actually, I think this was before Tavi was born. Yikes. Let's not go there.

These days wide-legged trousers like these and a fitted button down shirt a la Katherine Hepburn is very elegant look, pretty far removed from my hippie-dippy past and the bohemian trend that seems to never, ever die.

Also in my Sale Mail today is this wallet from Marc by Marc Jacobs. I am not particularly obsessed with it by any means, but I was intrigued when I saw the description as "faux leather." Yes. This. More vegan-friendly Marc by Marc, please. Thanks.

September Madness!

If you're like me, you always feel a little left out of NCAA's March Madness with all those brackets and co-workers with different picks and whatnot. Well, here's a contest I'm interested in. Shop It To Me is having a Battle of the Brands, where designers brands face off against each other. There were a couple of upsets in Round 1, so I'm excited to see how Round 2 plays out.

Cannot believe A. Wang went down, but I'm kind of happy to see Rebecca Minkoff lose because I've been waiting over a year for a leather strap I purchased (when you had to buy them separately with the MAB and MAB mini bags).

I'm curious to see who would move forward in Vince vs. Splendid because both have some great modal cotton separates, but... I'll save my opinion for after--don't want to sway your vote! Elizabeth and James and Alice and Olivia are also a really nice match up, but I think its obvious whom I'm going with.

These boots took my breath away. I'm seriously thinking about getting them if I get back from NYC with any cash left. Or maybe I'll get them anyway? Beautiful. DKNY Lace Up Boot at Shopbop.com for $142.50!

Next up? A beautiful Robert Rodriguez Diamond Back Double Knit Dress for $118.80 at ShopBop. I. love. this. Enough to use gratuitous periods, something I know Amber does not approve of. First, the double knit, which I love because the thicker material lies a little bit better (especially nice if you have Spanx underneath. I'm just saying. I would wear this with the black tights, but with some fierce ankle booties--maybe the studded Colin Stuart ones? Then, BAM! Look at the back of the dress. It is seriously sexy without revealing too much. Well, if I could figure out some kind of bra to wear with it...

I've had my eye on this hoodie for quite some time. I'd love to wear it with my Marc by Marc Chrissie skinny jeans and the above DKNY boots! The oversized shape is such a great play on proportion, and the Mineral Blue is a similar shade to the royal blue I saw everywhere on Newbury Street yesterday. I would love to have this Vince Women's Taffeta Dirndl Skirt (on sale at Bloomingdales.com) cut so short it's just barely appropriate. I think it'd be really fun take on the full mini trend and wearing taffeta is SO much fun.

Since I've been getting into the online fashion world, I've signed up for a few different shopping things, like ShopItToMe.com and Ideeli.com. Both are pretty cool. Ideeli gets various bags and bobbles that they sell at reduced rates, and Shop It To Me lets you put in name brands and stores of interest, and they send you an update of those items that are on sale. Well, today I got an email, and I was THRILLED to see this on sale at Bluefly.com. Unfortunately they do not have that item. Thus, I have been foiled by Shop It To Me, and I have a sinus infection, so I'm not feeling super cute or chic.

Maybe that's one of the reasons I invited my fashionable and super-talented interwebs pen pal Stephanie Lim to blog. I can't think of how many years I've known her, but it's been at least 5? I found her randomly on Live Journal, and I thought she was like the coolest person ever! Her artwork is super-rad and girlfriend knows how to accessorize. We've kept in touch since then, and when I started this venture, I immediately thought of her to post some of her style findings from San Francisco and lend her generally flawless opining. And, at the very least, she won't toy with your hearts, promising you on sale Chanel rings that aren't actually in stock. . .

EDIT: It was just a bad link! I just bought the ring!

P.S. What do you think about mixing gold and silver? I've been known to mix black and blue, brown and black--all kinds of faux pas! But I've never done that one too much--should I let go of this archaic fashion dictum?
