The Must-Throw Away Shoe

This is just me bitching but I hate...HATE...HATE the gladiator trend. Who came up with this new trend to make yourself look like you have cankles? It's the worst trend in the last ten years. They're worse than shoulder pads which look good on NO ONE. The gladiator sandal is not only unfeminine, but also a very heavy look on the foot. Depending on the thickness and placement of the straps, the effect is not always a flattering one for a woman's leg.

They come in sandals and heels, but they're all freaking terrible and deserve to go back to 2,000 years ago.

I like the trend and yes they can be unflattering, but fashion isn't ever about just making yourself look good--it's expression.

Hahaha! I just got a pair of gladiatoresque heels at Zara! It can't be said that everyone on this blog mindlessly (or not) follows trends.

Loves it!

I should also add that I already have cankles without those sandals, so wearing them is super funny/unfortunate.

ok but we can all agree those first ones look like the skeleton of some poor animal that got lost in the desert.

i say good call on those ones, stephanie.

Haha! I don't expect everyone to agree with me. It is a trend after all. And I will say, SOME gladiator inspired heels are cute but not the ones that look like gladiator sandals with a heel. Whatever the case, as long as you rock it...go for it! I mean, I have a fedora and it looks ridiculous on my huge honkin' head but I don't care because I rock it.

Amber: good one. The first ones are the most ridiculous things I've ever seen! I don't care if MK wears them. It's like you're getting gipped on a boot because half of it is missing.

Yeah, it always bugs me when certain trends only look good on 1% of the population because most of us are not built with 18" of pencil-thin ankles and calves.

To broaden the "Greek" trend a bit, I am loving some other Mediterranean-inspired sandals and goddess tops/dresses. But Russell Crowe is all the gladiator I need in my life.

HA! amen to that, pubby.
